Oh what a sweet man you have when one day he tells you he's whisking you away for a romantic weekend..."Is it somewhere where I can find Vintage Clothing I ask?" "Maybe" is the answer.
Our journey began Saturday Morning April 9th when I picked up my spousal unit from his work at Portland Air Base Fire Dept. Had to pass by the fabulous f-15 on our way off the base... Does it not look like its flying low?
Did i know where we were heading? NOPE!!! I knew soon we were headed North as the Seattle sign loomed ahead.
Along 1-5 Northbound, I always look forward to billboard where a die hard Republican must have purchased this piece for everytime you drive by it there is a wonderful new posting on it. Can you read it?
A couple hrs later, I'm gingerly saying "Oh, look, an Antique store." Soon we are stopping at everyone along the way. Unfortunately, the illusive vintage piece was just that....illusive.
BUT...to no avail..I came across in a little town outside of Olympia Wa. our (Dawnette and I) 5th Drive in Movie Theatre. So cool, i had to photograph it. If you are not already aware...we are on a quest to find over 350 working Drive in Movie Theatres in America still operating.
Anywho....back to my trip. Along the way to this "surprise destination" we saw all kind of oddities..how about driving along and seeing a 20 ft. tall metal bull in a field surrounded by real live cattle that are totally oblivious to the fact that there is a monstrosity taking up their valuable grass.
We take turn toward Port Townsend and now I know where I'm going. For those of you not aware, Port townsend is one of the oldest ports on the west coast. Situated on the Straight of Juan de fuca...(sp) this lovely little town is over 150 years old at least. What is so special about this place is that the original downtown historic buildings still remain and have been painstakingly renovated to their original grandeur. 46 wonderful old brick buildings make up old town Port Townsend. I was in love.
We stayed in the Historic Palace Hotel...built in 1889. It was not always a Hotel but soon became one. When you walk into the Lobby it is like stepping back into time. Gorgeous dark wood, antique furniture and ghostly paintings meet you. A Very long steep staircase takes you to the gorgeous rooms upstairs. Steeped in History, this is a must stay place in my book....just remember, the doors dont close tight, the walls are thin, and you might here footsteps at all hours of the night.
What about that little diner along the way that is a must. FAT SMITTYS....the perfect burger place. Support your local troops and while your at it..suppport this fellow Vet by putting a dollar on his wall and signing it. Food is to die for. Talk about a belly buster...this is it. The Staff was amazing and treated us like a queen and kind. They were so good they actually talked us into ordering not only the famous FAT SMITTY burger, but a fresh blackberry shake and of course Halibut fish and chips. Needless to say...we took our lunch to the motel for dinner to.
A MUST SEE were all the antique stores in the town. After purchasing a few little goodies, i needed a vintage clothing fix. Needless to say...i could not find any...BUT ALAS...that was fine. My whole trip was suppose to be a romantic trip wasn't it? And boy was it!!!
So next time you are looking for a romantic place to visit on a whim, I highly recommend Port Townsend, WA.
Even the fainting couches were original...not sure about the person occupying it though!

The Vintage Easter Bonnet
HAPPY EASTER 2010
One tradition that has been around for many years is the Easter Bonnet. Majority of women try to find the most unique and different bonnet that they can. We felt like amongst our beautiful collection two lovely hats fit the Theme of Easter Bonnet for what might have been worn during their era...
Just a couple Bonnets that could have been used back in the day for Easter day...
